ABOUT ME
It all started 23 years ago when my mum saw an advert for a local Taekwondo class and took me and my brother along with her to try it out. After a couple of years one of the student had taken over the club - a 'rocket scientist' (in this case he actually was one though) with a passion for body mechanics and a keen eye for detail. For over a decade I trained under him, progressing through the belts, competing in occasional competitions and eventually becoming an instructor. However, despite all the will, perseverance and stretching in the world, stomach cramps and chronic muscle tightness restricted me from performing at the level I aspired and started to dent my confidence.
It was wasn't until much later when working at a gym and alongside therapists that I discovered the cause for the stomach issues, and more problematic the abdominal separation and hip impingement left in its wake.
This is when I dove deep down the rabbit hole of biomechanics; books, courses, mentorships and learning from the physios and trainers around me. Through resolving many of my own limitations I realised the potential for change we have through training.
From the long hours spent stretching and foam rolling for it all to feel the same 30 minutes later, the "just get stronger" to the "stop overthinking it", the embarrassment spending so much time doing something only to struggle the more you do it. I understand the lack of help and feeling of helplessness, and that's why I started Kinetikos - to combine the will to help others overcome their barriers with the knowledge, skills and network to make it happen.
